Peace

I'm supposed to be picking out an image for a Christmas/holiday card but instead, I feel like sharing this image in hopes of brightening these dark days.

It was inspired by my good friend's lovely daughter, who was dancing in the rain at Kelly Point Park one spring. (I painted this a few weeks ago for the Big 300 show.) Peace.

Two Exciting Shows this Saturday

I've been workin' away like a busy, little painter-elf ... and this Saturday, I have my work in two shows with deals on affordable, original art in honor of the holiday season.  I do hope you will join me for one or both:

Here in St. Johns, Studio 30 at Cathedral Park Place

Downtown Portland, Peoples Art at Pioneer Place

Just a small sampling of what's for sale in the two shows:

An experimental abstract in the Big 300

Fun, little paintings in unique frames ... perfect for gifting

Plein air painting of Newport's Old Town bay

Would love to see you. Happy Holidays!

Downtown Minneapolis Skyline Redux

Using my old, smaller painting as a study for this painting. Photo's not-so-great. Will get a better one in the light before it goes off to its new home in Russia.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hooray! Fine Art Fridays are Back!

I'm so excited to be back with my super-talented, lovely friends at Studio 30. Friday night, we had a great model, Julie, who is also an artist. Here's what I painted (in progress):

The other painters called it "romantic." See what everyone else did at Studio 30 thoughout the day at Fine Art Friday: http://allaprimaportland.blogspot.com/2012/11/studio-30-friday-november-16-2012.html.  Sign up to follow my blog for updates on my work.

Have a fantastic week!

Happy to have this painting again!

"Jackson Bottom Wetlands" Oil on Canvas/panel, 9x12", Quin Sweetman

Now that I have this work back from the Hillboro Plein Air show, I am able to share a better photo. It really was a joy to paint this, using mostly just a palette-knife, on one of the last summer days in Oregon. Hope you enjoy it too!

Somehow this seems fitting for today:

Zen Man, 24x18", Oil on Canvas, Quin Sweetman (2011)
A large, simple painting which was shown in the Cascade Aids Project's Art 4 Life event in 2011. My inspiration was one of my quick life-drawings from Hipbone Studio. (I may push and pull values a bit more but I like the feeling of calm it imparts.)

Back to Figure Drawing

The rainy season has officially started so indoors I head (for painting and drawing, at least). Here's the first nude I've been able to draw in quite a while.

The man we drew was named Doc, a wonderful art model at the Brush & Palette. It was both fun and challenging to capture his essence, in just 30 minute poses. (I pushed and pulled the volumes a bit more from memory this morning.) Hooray for rain!

By the way, the Body Beautiful in Ancient Greece exhibit is up at the Portland Art Museum. Cannot wait to go sketch the statues.

Just submitted this painting for the Rose Festival juried show at Oregon Society of Artists.

Keep your fingers crossed! If you would like to see the show in person, it opens Sunday, June 10, 1-4 p.m. and continues through July 6th. For gallery normal hours, etc., see http://www.oregonsocietyofartists.com/events.htm

This 20x 24" painting was one I did during the time of the Ovanes Berberian workshop but not while he was present/teaching (important for juried shows). Learned a lot about color and paint application from him and Kat Sowa, whose still life paintings continue to inspire me.
